Summarise and Comparison of Three Documentary Styles.

The three styles of filming interviews are Observational in which are people recorded during answering on questione they heard or they are just talk about something with no presenter or narrator but it has voice over also everysingle person is filmed by rule of thirds. Expository also voice over and many kind of shots like in observational like mid-shot, long shot and both are non-intrusive but is using also something what is called Nose, Head and Hand room where some spaces have to be cutted or avoided during recording like space above head or hold hands to do not break the recording image and Nose room which have to guide from which position head could be recorded to get right effect. Participatory is kind of documentary which had most of thing which never exist in Expository or
Observational and that is Narrator or Presenter which go everywhere with camera man and meet many people and ask them questions which most audience want to ask. Also in this documentary Presenter gain answers and also show his own responses on how people behave around like he can be affraid or something can make him/her laugh or cry. And only that kind of documentary can show noddies. Whole different between them three is not big it's just in few different techniques they are use like in one you can see mid-shots and long shots in other we can find noddies in another just talking people with voice over. All that stuff change audience vision for documentary depends what that documentary has to share with audience then is choosing best style. Personaly I like them all, it's really nice and easy to watch.

What is Participatory Documentary and how it works

The Participatory Mode (the encounter between film-maker and subject is recorded, as the film-maker actively engages with the situation they are documenting, asking questions of their subjects, sharing experiences with them. Heavily reliant on the honesty of witnesses) - Definition

Participatory cinema tries to involve a film's community in the process of making movies, rather than interaction being left to cinema viewers at the end of the process. The organizers of participatory cinema open up cinema showings and the cinema production process for non professionals. - Wikipedia

Participatory documentaries include RiP!: A Remix Manifesto.

When Louis met the Humiltons Family

Partycipatory Documentary is one of documentaries where presenter and object are main element of film. Louis' programme i which he met many different people gives us perfect example of participatory documenatary in one of his films he I could say risk his life, during meeting with skinheads which hates jewish... and I supose he is jewish. To film When Louis met the Nazi they used few techniques of film making like: Presenter, Music in background few times, Handheld camera, Two shots, Over shoulder shot, Head room (which I spotted) Narrator/Voice over also establishing shot. His documentary was about few people of millions from america very proud of their racist views which they teach it their children.

Establishing shot and Cutaway

Establishing Shot

In film and television, an establishing shot sets up, or "establishes", a scene's setting and/or its participants. Typically it is a shot at the beginning (or, occasionally, end) of a scene indicating where, and sometimes when, the remainder of the scene takes place.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Establishing_shot

It make clear for audience where the place is in city, country or space, depends on film or television program.

Cutaway

In film, a cutaway is the interruption of a continuously filmed action by inserting a view of something else. ...
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cutaway_(filmmaking)

Mostly used to remove unwated part of inteview, landscape or any other 'disaster' cought by camera during recording or just for showing something else.

'I swear I can't help it'

[ http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/expository - 'of the nature of exposition; serving to expound, set forth, or explain' ]
Expository documentary use any kind of intereaction of narrator, like voice over and giving comments or/and views of audience. The voice over in most documentaries sounds like god's speak and try explain what we see and make it more clearly.

'I Swear I can't Help it' is really good example of expository documentary which used many filming techniques like Voice over, mid-shots, moving camera and establish camera, also establishing shot. all of those techniques have to easier explain and make it more clear for audience the story about people with Tourrete Syndrom which I could say push them to tick react which can be appear as strange noises, unnormal moving. In this documentary we will gain some information about their experiences and feeling accompanied with them like shame or angry also sad and lonely.

How is the documentary ‘Brixton Beach’ filmed?

This documentary has been filmed as observational document about Skaters and skate park where skaters talk about their little hobby, also to this documentary are include opinion of local people which are entertained by skaters’ tricks, and council people which agree with fact that skaters spend their time on great fun. To did this film directors use Rule of Third, during interviews they leave camera still and on medium shot also they do it as observational, non-intrusive but when they record skaters tricks they use moving camera with slow motion and long shots with close ups. To make this film as natural as possible, during recording a narrator wasn’t used or a presenter.
To fulfil the film they add casual tracks which are moody and tell this is skate park and this is a skill to do thing like this.

http://www.girishshambu.com/blog/2006/12/six-types-of-documentary.html -Observational documentaries attempt to simply and spontaneously observe lived life with a minimum of intervention. Filmmakers who worked in this sub-genre often saw the poetic mode as too abstract and the expository mode as too didactic. The first observational docs date back to the 1960’s; the technological developments which made them possible include mobile lighweight cameras and portable sound recording equipment for synchronized sound. Often, this mode of film eschewed voice-over commentary, post-synchronized dialogue and music, or re-enactments. The films aimed for immediacy, intimacy, and revelation of individual human character in ordinary life situations.

Rule of Thirds

The rule of thirds is that during on interview you break the shot frame into three equal sections horizontally and vertically.

You keep the subject of interview in one vertical section on the left or right of the frame as it is believed your attention doesn't focus on the center but drift off to one side...

from wikipedia source: The rule of thirds is applied by aligning a subject with the guide lines and their intersection points, placing the horizon on the top or bottom line, or allowing linear features in the image to flow from section to section. The main reason for observing the rule of thirds is to discourage placement of the subject at the center, or prevent a horizon from appearing to divide the picture in half.

When photographing or filming people, it is common to line the body up with a vertical line, and having the person's eyes in line with a horizontal one. If filming a moving subject, the same pattern is often followed, with the majority of the extra room being in front of the person (the way they are moving).

Rule of thirds could e used to record Interview, documentaries, news or weather...

Favourite creativity done by others

Most known place for me to watch others creativity is Youtube, I've not favourite band because I listening every kind of music if it's normal :P
But most likely bands are Linkin Park, Pendulum, and I have no more in mind right now.
Favourite Music video,

Gears of War, one from my favourite games, when I saw this trailer I feel sad, it was great felling like I was there and feel same things what main character feel

Remake of Red Alert 3 The Soviet March and Soprano Soviet March 2 from Red Alert 3 Uprising

Team Fortress 2 mixed cut scenes from "Meet the..." with moody music :]

Future Plans

I choose this course mostly for 5/7 GCSEs and relaxing working on Creative media works also I want to gain new skills like Animations and 3D graphics to make my works high Quality, after this I will to decide or stay on course or go on Nursery university, the aim of this decision will give a job everywhere, anytime or stay in college and continue course on 3rd level and maybe then change my study plan on Art/Media university or something else, so I planned my studies on next maybe 5 years.

My favourite subject...

My for now best piece of work is drawing, Type of my drawing become from Manga series and other things like cartoon or my own imaginary. From family comments about my work I've some best pieces, drawed on basic watched: Devil may cry, Sonic X also based on games like Gears of War, Prototype, Unreal Tournament III Black and others...
Honestly I've no favourite artist, my works and Passion to do that become from simple works about middle ages, knights and monsters, then I start searching some other pictures added by unknown drawers, I analyse their style and start using this in our working. Right now still biggest problem in drawing for me are emotional faces, hands, eyes and feet, for most people is "simple" but it isn't that why when I've problem with choosing eyes or something else I use Youtube to searching guides, for example:

From here I get just "few" ideas how draw some eyes...
